How to detect scam and phishing — a guide by ETFinance
In an endeavor to assist you to enhance your Internet Security, we would like to outline a few characteristics of cyber-scam, commonly known as “phishing”.
Phishing can happen in many ways, such as through e-mails advertisements or phone calls. However, they all share a same goal which is getting you to share sensitive information such as Personal Information or bank account details.
Although the Company maintain sophisticated and well-designed Internet Security controls to protect our networks, computers and your data from cyber threats and fraudulent activity, we rely also on you in case you are being personally contacted by a scammer.
Scammers may pretend to be someone who is contacting you on behalf of the Company and might use the following means to do so:
- Vishing, or voice phishing calls, are considered as a form of scam that aims to extract personal and/or sensitive information. The Company is asking you to be cautious in the event that the person calling you, is not a person you’re familiar with. Try to verify that the details of the person contacting you, match with the details of the person you are actually familiar with;
What needs to be done: Do not provide your personal details after an unexpected request.
- Scammers usually communicate with Clients through generic e-mail domains. Usually, Companies use designated e-mail addresses, and not generic e-mail domains. For instance, our Company’s e-mail address for contacting clients and disseminating general information is [email protected]. The Company is and will not use any email addresses such us [email protected], [email protected];
- Scammers may use e-mails that appear to come from unknown / unfamiliar senders, alerting you to access specific websites or links. The link/s provided in these e-mails might take you to a fake login page that mimics our real login page, in an attempt to extract sensitive information from you. What needs to be done: Do not open e-mails from unknown senders, do not click on links included in such emails or open relevant attachments.
- E-mails that guarantee profit or talk about rare investment opportunities that should not be missed out. As a regulated Company that requires communication with clients to be conducted adhering to a fair and honest code of conduct, under no circumstances, any of our employees will send an email that is promising profits and/or providing investment advice and/or pushing for a deposit.
- If you are not sure about our official and legitimate domains, we encourage you to always search for the relevant details of the Company or its approved domains on the official websites of Regulatory Bodies. Our approved websites are https://www.magnumfx.eu/ and https://www.etfinance.eu/ This information can be found on the Regulator’s website, for example: CySEC’s website;
- You are also able to check our registration on your local authority, FCA;
- Do not trust the caller ID or the Telephone number that is calling you, it can be easy for the scammer to fake the number.
What needs to be done: You can always hang up and alert us through calling the Company’s phone number mentioned on our website or in the relevant Regulatory Body’s website.
Below, you can see an example of a possible scam which outlines a number of usual false details that might be provided by a scammer:
For example the email might been sent through a generic e-mail domain i.e ([email protected]), however, you need to compare and check if there is an e-mail signature and if there is, to compare it with the name of the sender name and signature since this might be indicating a different e-mail domain, as well as different name.
It is important to compare the signature details with numbers and name of your familiar AM and also you need to pay particular attention whether the e-mail is been sent to a number of persons “Undisclosed-recipients” and not directly to the retrospective client.
Within the e-mail above, there is a false promise to “generate at least 200-245% profit” and the scammer is promising that “I WILL DO EVERYTHING FROM MY SIDE”. The company will never send e-mails that promise profits to clients/retrospective clients.

ETFinance warns against Fraud Activity
It has come to our attention that a Third party is using our Company’s details and to that extent it may contact our clients by Phone and/or Emails and use the Tradename “ETFinance” while using the Company’s License details.
The possible cloning is made by a Third Party with the name of Markets-Guide using the website http://themarketsguide.com/lp/es/. We are not able to locate the Registration Details of the Third Party since it appears that it is using our Company’s details (both Magnum FX and ETFinance) such as address and Regulation Details.
We would like to stress to our existing Clients and/or Potential Clients that ETFinance and/or Magnum FX are not associated with the above-mentioned Company and website and we strongly advise our Clients to avoid any kind of Cooperation with this Company since it appears to be a fraud.
ETFinance is a trading name of MAGNUM FX (CYPRUS) LTD a Cyprus Investment Firm (“CIF”), fully regulated by the Cyprus Regulatory Body CySEC. For further information about the Company’s Brand Name and details, please refer to the details of the Company in the Regulator’s website, CySEC here.

It has come to our attention that a Third party may contact our clients by Phone and/or Emails and use the Tradename “ETFinance” while using the Company’s License details and logos.
The possible cloning is made by a Third Party with the name of Betelgeza Star Spolka Z.O.O registered in Poland. It has been noticed that the Third Party, while communicating via email communication with Clients may be using the logos of ETFinance but using details of other Polish Company and generic Email address of Gmail.
We would like to stress to our existing Clients and/or Potential Clients that ETFinance and/or Magnum FX are not associated with the above-mentioned Company.

ETFinance warns against website
It has come to our attention that a Third party is trying to use the Tradename “ETFinance” and is using the Company’s License details in order to promote their services, potentially by saying that they are also a trade name of Magnum FX (Cyprus) Ltd.
The possible cloning is by a company which uses the website: cfgtrade.com.
ETFinance and/or Magnum FX are not associated by all means with this website or the Third party that holds this website.
The Company’s URLs which are approved by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (the “CySEC”) and used by the Company are: ETFinance.EU and MagnumFX.EU.
ETFinance is a Cyprus Investment Firm (“CIF”), fully regulated by the Cyprus Regulatory Body CySEC. For further information about the Company’s Brand Name and details, please refer to the details of the Company in the Regulator’s website, CySEC here.
Any other unauthorized persons, companies or websites using the Company’s brand without the prior written consent of the Company, they are in breach of the Law and the Regulations and might be subject to proceedings to be taken against them by the Company.
